Known as being one of the fastest levelers in the game, Hunters are an incredibly versatile class that is both extremely fun and rewarding to play. Hunters are capable of taming beasts and have some of the most useful pets in the game. In a group situation, they can be great at controlling crowds and even have a really good DPS output.
Unfortunately, Hunters also have a pretty negative reputation with other players. If you’ve ever heard the term “Huntard,” you know what I’m talking about. While many players feel leveling the Hunter class is too easy, there are some ways to separate from the flock.
Hunters are not actually designed for close combat, and the more a player is able to keep their long ranged skills in effect, the faster battles will become.
IS A HUNTER THE RIGHT CLASS FOR ME?
No matter how fast you want to level, it’s never a good idea to pick a class that you won’t enjoy leveling. The easiest way to prevent this is to know exactly what you sign up for when you pick the hunter class. Let’s take a look at the finer details of leveling a hunter.
Hunter Gameplay
- Most of the damage during battles is dealt with your ranged weapons—crossbows, guns, or bows. There are several high powered range skills that will deal some impressive damage.
- Hunters have the ability to use pets in battle, and those pets can be used to tank extremely effectively while still putting out a good DPS on their own.
- Hunters can use many unique survival abilities including the skill of laying traps for their enemies as well
- Hunters are not designed for melee although there are many players who try. A melee hunter will never deal close to the amount of damage a ranged hunter will.
CHOOSING A PROFESSION
There’s not really a profession that screams Hunter, so players have a ton of options here to consider. For making gold quickly, I would recommend mining, skinning, or herbalism as they are all great gold farming sources for the Auction House.
While you may be tempted by the riches you hear crafters bragging about, crafting professions can be extremely expensive to level and are only profitable at level 80+.
Leatherworking can provide a great 130 agility bracer enchant for you to use while leveling.
LEVELING A HUNTER
Beast Mastery
Beast Mastery Hunters are easily the best solo class in the game. Focusing on the improvement of pet abilities, pets are elevated from the role of support to something much more brutal and impressive.
The Beast Mastery tree doesn’t just improve your pet abilities, however, but has many improvements that benefit their masters as well. You won’t be dealing out the same massive damage as a Marksmanship Hunter, but your Pet will more than make up for the difference.
Part of the reason this build is so effective is because it allows your pet to become a nearly unstoppable tank. With intimidation and beastial wrath, pets become a destructive whirlwind of destruction that will keep opponents distracted enough for you to take on even elites without damage.
